07 Aug The Importance of Room Optimisation for Great Sounding Tracks (Part 1)
So you have crappy speakers and a crappy interface and your speakers are sat on your desk with no isolation and your desk is in a corner of the room or right up against a wall. We can apply the same scenario to those of you who have great speakers and a great interface but the same room set up but your resulting mixes will likely be very similar – not that great. It’s not the gear you have but how you position it!
In my next blog I will talk about the basics of room optimisation but basically, once you have positioned everything as optimally as possible and bought (or built) some basic acoustic treatment, you will then need to calibrate and optimise your speakers using software (Sonarworks or IK Multimedia ARC) to get the most accurate response from your speakers. This will allow you to make mix decisions accurately. This is the ONLY way you are going to get better at mixing and end up with great sounding masters (which by default will propel you to untold fame and fortune!!).
Do not underestimate the fact that great mastering can only be achieved with great mixes – which can only be achieved with a great sounding room!
